LC to Coir/coir worm castings

Experiment

I made a liquid culture from spores of KSSSxLGT and Angkor Wat. These cultures were then used to inoculate three containers. One is KSSSxLGT in coir, one is KSSSxLGT in coir and some worm castings, and lastly is Angkor Wat in coir. Containers were misted and capped then placed on a heating mat. Note: I activated the coir and pasteurized the castings in phed water.

Had harvested another last night. Decided to try to take a spore print. It looks like it already dropped a ton in the tank but I’ll see what we can get. There’s a few other pins coming! I’ve had the lid propped open and have been misting.

These photos were taken exactly 12 hrs from each other. The growth of these things always fascinates me. Dehydrated at 150 for an hr and a half. I chose to harvest before the veil broke, and when I grabbed the container the little guy toppled over.

Plucked her last night. I took the cap and threw it on agar, I probably didn’t need to do that and should’ve spore printed, but here we are. I dehydrated the stem for two hours at maybe 165 degrees? I know that’s night but it’s all I got atm

The veil is about to pop so I’m going to get the cap on some agar to see what we can get. The coco/worm castings is pinning now so she’s under the light. Continued to fan and spray. The agar from the growths are spreading nicely also.

ig:@eaegifts

ig:@eaegifts Have you gotten into spore prints yet growmie?

ZaddyXL

ZaddyXL Not yet, what’s the benefit?

ig:@eaegifts

ig:@eaegifts You mentioned the veil is about to break so I thought you’re gonna catch it to make a spore print, it’s basically spores on foil so you can make a culture or agar plate later. I’m not super well versed in all of it so definitely check the info but I’m pretty sure I’m remembering correctly

Look!!!! Moved her under the light a few days ago. The coco worm castings are showing primordial knots now too so I moved her to light

We’ve got pinning!!! I’m surprised it’s in the coco and not the coco worm castings combo contained. Fanned it off and misted lightly.

GrNadeGrade 💣

GrNadeGrade 💣 In the lab 🧪 cooking 🔥. Def want to try this some day, but for now I’ll live vicariously through your updates. Keep ‘‘em coming 😂

ZaddyXL

ZaddyXL It doesn’t take much brother get some coco and some tubes!

These are moving along and are showing growth I haven’t seen before! Is this the rhyzomorphic growth everyone is chasing?! Usually it grows in a circle but these are really reaching in strands. One tank even has “roots” showing through the bottom. Continuing to fan. Would more fae make things move faster?

trichometheatre

trichometheatre No more FA would only make it take longer trying to establish itself with the rest of the mycelial Grove. I would take that cover and put it on, so there are two spaces on the side for air so just place the chalk on the opposite way and remember you don’t need to worry about anything getting dirty since then mycelium is already established. It looks a little wet; you don’t want to see any brown within the growth itself, if you do don’t try to get rid of it, you can only hope that the healthier Mycelium is going to overtake it, which it most likely will. Those strands are an indication of healthy, happy, mycelium!

ZaddyXL

ZaddyXL Noted, and awesome I’m excited! The grains the samples were taken from didn’t show any growth similar to this so I was really confused when I saw this

Pretty sure the agar is all dead. I used kernels from the Angkor Wat run to add to these just to see what happens. They’re colonizing very slowly, but they’re moving. Is coco reusable? May wash it and retry with Lc

Drizz

Drizz Yes if you cook it

Drizz

Drizz Better off buying the bricks but I know what you mean I really like that set up simple looks like it needs some air holes with tape to regulate the gases?

ZaddyXL

ZaddyXL My thoughts exactly, wash it then cook it. I wanna buy the brick but this inflation is kicking my ass 💀. This set up is literally just for experiments. My wife was gonna toss them from a big set we got and I’m a functional hoarder so I repurposed them. Trying to see colonization at diff rates under diff conditions. I know I eventually need airholes, but I thought in the spawning process it should be lower on the fae? Fruiting is when you open the holes and top up a bit. Learn me pls!

I checked under the surface for any growth and didn’t see anything… so I got some agar of the same strain the LC was from and placed it in the rubs. Patted everything down and fanned air into them. Hopefully no contamination since I covered the agar. There’s a slight odor from them. Should the tops be kept open?

Day: 1

Inoculation day. I made a liquid culture from spores of KSSSxLGT and Angkor Wat. These cultures were then used to inoculate three containers. One is KSSSxLGT in coir, one is KSSSxLGT in coir and some worm castings, and lastly is Angkor Wat in coir. Containers were misted and capped then placed on a heating mat at about 77 degrees. Note: I activated the coir and pasteurized the castings in phed water.
