HELP NEEDED: Surviving Sulfur Burn
02/05/2019
February 4th, disaster struck when my partner hung a Sulfur Burner in the veg room. Unfortunately, he hung it by a piece of string. Of course the string melted, snapped, and dropped the burner in one of the smart pots, which caught fire. I was able to put the fire out quickly, but the mix of smoke and sulfur has taken a toll on my babies. I’m hoping to use this platform to find helpful advice and provide others information about dealing with an issue like this, since there aren’t many that appear to be documented. All help and comments are welcome. Fingers crossed. 🤞🏼

Ladies will be getting cut in 6 days!

ClandestineWestOz Mate you have a big job coming up, days of trimming. I’m jealous lol
PresaCanario I think the guy that caused the sulphur fire should trim this crop by himself. Lol

Greenhouseguy95 Did they ever come back from that. Fuckin trooper plants and a damn good grower behind them
Greenhouseguy95 Awesome work man. I love how professional and clean your setup looks aswell
SmokingWithTheDog I appreciate that my dude. Looking to make some improvements once we cut this crop down. I want to put in 4x8 floor trays and a new netting set up. Ideally would like to go to gavita LED lighting with an auto pot hydro system, but one step at a time.
Day: 66
Have to finish thinning out last five Vanilla Kush. Probably 20 hrs of work just because they are so bushy and leaves so small. Will be worth it. Buds on the other plants are swelling.

ClandestineWestOz Looking really really good in there mate!
SmokingWithTheDog Thanks Oz. Just trying to keep up with ya!
Day: 57
Gave the second section it’s 21 day Schwazz’n. The following photo is the 3rd section that got its 1st Schwazz’n a week ago. Amazing how much these plants burst with growth after an intense deleafing. Rest of the room is about 3-4 weeks away from being cut and is getting real sticky icky icky. Thanks for all the comments and support. Y’all are the best. 🤙🏼🖖🏼✌🏼

Day: 49
Added another 9 plants to the left side of the flower room. Starting to stagger the flower room so that I don’t have to wait 2 months for each cut down.

ClandestineWestOz Looking great buddy I’m glad things are in full swing for you now.
Hoober Bro you need any more pot plants? lol. God damn That’s probably the biggest grow on here.
genghis_quan Looking good, never saw your story till now. Happy no one was harmed and that your babies are okay!!

Trying to do the final deleaf on the first three rows of the flower room. The Vanilla Kush is so damn bushy, it’s taking several hours a plant. The screens are really filling out well however. More updates to come.

Certainly have not been as active on the updates of late. I have actually been trying to let my partner ease his way back into managing parts of the garden. I think his confidence took a hit when the sulfur fire happened, but honestly, I can hardly tell most of these plants went through such a traumatic event. He has been much more focused since it. I’ll be down in Texas for a few days actually to visit some of those charity card rooms. We play a lot of cards where I’m from. Anyways, this is why I was slowly backing away from the garden, because I need to count on him when I’m away. I’m confident things will be fine. So I want to make sure I spread these plants out to maximize light and keep them low. Height is not our friend, especially for the Han Solo 🍔. Deleaf needs to be done too so these beauties can just grow till they get their 21 day schwazzin. (8 days away) Best of luck guys and God Bless. Let me know if you know of any good card rooms in Austin TX!

Zergas Looking great like it never happened. Great job bring these girls back
Day: 21
Flower room Day 4. I’m surprised they haven’t picked up more steam yet. Might be an side effect of the burn.
Zergas Big grow space. What’s is you max temps and RH?
SmokingWithTheDog Temps are typically 75 and RH is around 40
Day: 19
Moved the big girls into the Bloom Room. Excited to see how they explode with growth these next few days. Every one will almost have their own light too. Stay tuned!

ClandestineWestOz I’d have to be a millionaire to afford the power bill for your setup. My little 5x5x7 tent and 2 lights kills my bank lol
Day: 17
Today was Schwazz day. Took about 45 mins per plant but it will be well worth it. Now that the flower room clear coat will be cured, tomorrow we flip to bloom! Can’t believe these girls are going to make it out of veg. Thanks for all the positivity in the comments guys! 🙏🏻

ClandestineWestOz You’ve done well with your persistence. Others would have scrapped the grow and started again. Well done on your part mate 👍
Greenhouseguy95 Agreed ^ most would have given up in your situation. You did great bringing them back.
Day: 15
Repainted the flower room floor. Think I will be adding some reflective wall material before I start loading in the girls Friday for bloom. Letting them rest for now. Will “Schwazz” them on Thursday.
Leebobo Don’t add nothing that’s reflective it can create hotspots and burn your plan as long as it is a semi gloss white paint you should be good!
ClandestineWestOz Room looks good buddy and those plants have recovered great. You can change your app name to Jon Berfelo 😉
Kballum Looks awesome man damnnnn that’s a sexy grow room.
Day: 13
Final clean of the bloom room. Any recommendations on an efficient product to give the floor a new coat with?
SmokingWithTheDog Also, got a bunch of babies that are looking nice. Good variety of clones that I bought when I wasn’t sure Will start some new grows with a few new strains in each.
SmokingWithTheDog *wasn’t sure if the current crop was going to survive. *
Kballum Hey buddy I’m a flooring installer lol there’s tones of nice products I would recommend but I’m sure you don’t want to spend that kind of money. I would recommend just doing a cement paint for garage floors from Home Depot. Really cheap and super quick to roll on. You can get textured paint to to give you some traction on the floor. Some really cool funky colours you can do to. Just did a purple and blue swirl in a guys basement.

Fed the ladies last night letting them have plenty of rest. I plan on moving the large ones into flower in the next couple days.

The final sulfur leaf was clipped today. Now there is nothing left but to grow. Thanks to everyone who supported. More updates to come

Day: 7
Finished removing all the dead leaves except for the last couple pots today. That sulfur took down just about every single leaf that these beauties had on them one week ago. Except for losing about a weeks worth of time/growth, these plants almost exactly as they should have when I was supposed to de-leaf last Monday. I do it once every 7-10 days and I really strip them down when I do. I think that stress training my have helped them survive. Thanks for all the support as always. Good growing to all.

ClandestineWestOz Right on mate! I’m glad it seems to be back on track for you. Look forward to all future updates on these babies.
Day: 6
Removing remaining yellow/dead leaves. The plants almost look surprisingly healthy once cleaned as much as possible. Granted, I’m saying that knowing full well these plants probably should not have survived. I will finish the big ones tomorrow and the small ones when they grow a little larger/more leaves. Thanks for all the good vibes everyone. The ladies needed them.

IT’S ALIVE! IT’S ALIVE!!! Plus, we have new roots! It appears that the babies will pull through! Very exciting and makes all the hours invested in saving them worth it! I will continue to update to show what the final results of these puppies are.

ClandestineWestOz Great job reviving the girls mate! Thrive girls, thrive!
Day: 4
They are not getting worse, but we still have a long road to recovery
6 years ago
Day: 3
Even after flushing 4 times, the PPM of one plant was 1500! So flushing each plant took about 14 hours total. Then I proceeded to cut off all the dead leaves on each plant. 48 hours since the fire, nothing to do but wait
6 years ago
Afarrenburg Get your humidity under control and mix some take-root with the next watering.
Zergas Are they in veg? If so if it was me lights on 24/0
PresaCanario Flushing smart pots is a pain in the ass compared to regular pots. I think there is enough green for your plants to bounce back but it will take awhile before they are strong enough to give you a good yield when flowered. plus pm is systemic you might have another outbreak if environment is not kept perfect for the rest of this grow. I know they have been your babies for the last couple months. But if you can get clean clones, you should consider starting fresh.

Day: 1
2 hours after the fire was put out and all the plants were rushed to a dark room where the smoke/sulfur couldn’t reach them. After 10 hours of cleaning, bleaching, ect. the plants were moved back into the room. Before pictures are at the end.
SmokingWithTheDog These are the plants after the fire/sulfur burn.
ClandestineWestOz Fuck bro that’s fucked up. All the best for the recovery though.
ClandestineWestOz Pulled this from google: Burning sulfur creates sulfur dioxide, a gas. If inhaled, coughing, shortness of breath, sore throat, and labored breathing, has been reported. Eye irritation has also been reported. Hope you had breathing apparatus on while cleaning bro
