Day: 123

From before I left for the holidays… gonna see where they’re at after 5 days unsupervised

Day: 115

Can’t chop for another 2 weeks, so lights are going down to 50% and temps staying low. I gave a lil splash of N via bushdoctor wholly mackerel, since there’s absolutely none in there rn. Lots of defol yday, lots of crunchy leaves. Will post trich pics soon

Day: 103

Gave em 5mL FF Wholly Mackerel hydrolysate (+ 4mL seaweed, 5mL FulPower) in 1 gal since they’ve gone pretty yellow since flushing. Herer is showing some purple and yellow on the same leaf, interesting to see a deficiency and an excess at the same time. Gotta check trichs again soon

Day: 97

+1

Yup mhmmm still at it I reckon. Getting some good color on GC, nights stay ~65F. I gave ~a gallon and a half of water and removed the runoff, which read ~1.6 EC. Basically just waiting on Herer to finish up at this point. Not sure if anyone has any go to end of flower tactics to suggest, otherwise I’m just gonna chop in a few weeks time.

TheSocialGrower Blumat still isn’t giving the moisture I want it to even though I reset both and they should be working. I can’t even tell if the water level in the reservoir is moving or if it’s just evaporation

Day: 93

+2

Yup uhuh doin their thing. This is supposed to be the dry tent, so I’ll need to make some decisions when it comes chopping time, considering Jack still looks a few weeks behind

Day: 91

+3

Not sure why my update didn’t post a few days ago. Gave em a gallon of water last night. Tied down Herer’s main stem, opened up a lot of light for the low canopy but that front corner is a little crowded. Oh well, it’s about to get light burn if it gets much taller. I’d say it’s a full foot above the Crack now

Day: 88

Still at it. GC seems to be winding down… I’ll check trichs soon

Day: 86

GC putting on some pretty colors and still stretching a little. Jack is still finicky but chugging along. They haven’t drank too much since their lipo the other day, so I have the blumat reservoir on the ground for the time being. Still looking for ways to help w the overfeeding. I have a bloom spectrum mini quantum board I could add, but I feel like it’s too late to crank up GC’s PAR, and JH is already getting more light by being taller. I wish I had more uncharged biochar, that’s the only thing I could think of, other than maybe humic acids.

Day: 85

Lots of work done last night… shop vac and all. I think my original mix was the problem unfortunately, so I’m not entirely sure how much vacuuming up the top dress will help but… alas we try

Day: 84

+4

Some interesting leaf colorations happening. I’ve kept temps usually in the 60-75f range (day and night, the GC looks like genetic coloration due to that. I also installed 2 XL blumats connected to a basin ~1ft above, hopefully that’ll give some consistent moisture. I really need to calibrate and run my EC pen bc I continue to think leaf drop is too quick to be nute burn, though I don’t know how different types of nute lockout manifest. Gonna go get that EC pen now…

TheSocialGrower So… I haven’t calibrated the EC pen at all, I bought it ~two years ago and it allegedly comes factory calibrated but… I saved a syringe full of run off from yesterday’s drench and… it wouldn’t really read EC… as I slowly submerged the probe it would slowly increase the number until it got somewhere between 1000-1500 and flip to PPM. PPM reading was ~450-525…

TheSocialGrower My input water and runoff both read ~6.6pH

TheSocialGrower Interestingly, I’m seeing someone who claims the vivosun TDS meter is just an EC meter that just halves the EC reading to give PPM… so by that logic I’m at ~1000nmS/cm

Day: 84

The results are in: 3000MicroS/cm runoff, she’s burnt! I flushed with 2 gals (20% volume) filtered/distilled water. Then shop vac’d up a little bit of soil and refilled with 2 handfuls 000 seedling soil. Some weird stuff is going on in terms of symptoms, that’ll be fun to piece together and see if I can pin down the main culprit. I’ll finish compiling my top dress totals

TheSocialGrower Also I unfortunately had to flush half with pure life distilled water, which was running a pH of 9.1. I’m sure it’ll be fine I just hate to have the additional variable. My standard brita/tap water runs ~6.8

Day: 83

+2

This JH is so moody… gonna aloe water again, and finally get my blumats setup. Might add a light layer of wood chips to hypothetically lock up some nitrogen.

TheSocialGrower Actually I’ll probably throw in some cover crop seeds. That’ll start tying up nutes right when these gals start flowering, and provide me a bit of a humidity buffer, since my humidifier was a victim of the flood

LeChron James

LeChron James Great idea on both the aloe and the cover crop. Maybe throw in some Quillaja….saponins do a green lady good

LeChron James

LeChron James It’s amazing what cover cropping does for your plants. I do it even with coco.

Day: 79

Flower

Still lookin good. Still haven’t been able to check the EC since we’re now dealing w another flood warning a week later. Leaf tips are still a little crispy. I think I overdid it on the top dress. I now have a shop vac so that’s a potential option but I need to learn more abt it, I’ve just seen some professional grows shop vac and replace the top layer of soil to fix nute issues. Not sure it’s worth stressing them more tho, the burn isn’t too bad at all. Anyway they’re doing fine. Gonna spray dr zymes tn or tm. I can still see a little reside from the Lost Coast spray from last week, hoping that added some defense against the high moisture this week🤷‍♂️ not super pressing, but I gotta check my beneficial mite population, I’m not sure they were able to establish themselves in this pot. I’m about ready to start popping new seeds for my 2x4 bed, I just need to line it up so it needs the least attention over the holidays (going into late veg around mid/late degember I think would be ideal, right?).

+1

Well look who perked right up w a little bit of aloe water. Gonna see if I can’t check EC today, I just gotta get my shitty little vivosun pen calibrated. I should also try to get my blumats setup to keep the EC as low as possible… that would work right, I’m not making that up? Been too long (like 2 years lol) since I’ve learned and/or applied a lot of these concepts lmao

Day: 77

Flower

A little earlier in the morning than my usual pic. Both girls’ leaves are drooping. Could use some water but nowhere near bone dry. Wonder if that indicates they’re starting to overfill the pot? I should install my gravity XL Blumats, I think that could have been my secret to the gas my rookie ass grew my first few harvests. It’d require a bit of root disturbance, and rigging up a reservoir. It’ll be a bit of a pain in the ass, but if I can find a setup that works it’ll pay dividends.

zer0applied

zer0applied Water. Check the first few cm of soil and stick your hand down the side inside to check roots etc. if she’s dry just pull her out and look at her. I do it all the time.

LeChron James

LeChron James The leaves are drooping because the EC is too high. The soil salinity is such that the plants can’t drink as well as they’d like. Think of it like sea water…, though it’s likely not NaCl, but a mixture of other substances/nutrients. Water, yes. Only water from here on out for sure. Evaluate your feeding program for the next run. Your soil is too hot so to speak.

TheSocialGrower Y’all are right. I (aloe) watered last night and she perked right up. Gonna post in a sec

Day: 76

Flower

More leaf stress but I think it’s the same issue. JH’s leaves still not praying like I’d like them to be. Wish I’d better recorded my past grows, I remember JH being finicky (vs. my only reference of Meph Sour Stomper) but not sure how I dealt w it/if it was an issue. Someone pointed me to ILGM forums but I didn’t see much in regard to discussing its growth habits or things to watch out for. I’m keeping an eye on it but not super worried. Gotta use the wide angle lens now for the full tent pic these days lmao, Jack getting tall

LeChron James

LeChron James The dark leaf color and leaf tip/edge stress says your EC is high. I’ve gone through the same thing a few times

LeChron James

LeChron James Forgive me if I’ve given you feedback already. I’ve gotten more experience than I’d like to admit on this issue though and can definitely help if you’d like

TheSocialGrower You’re all good growmie. I def think you’re right, I just haven’t had time to calibrate my (cheap vivosun) EC pen since I’ve been dealing w this flood this week. I haven’t given up on it tho I’ll def get to it this weekend if nothing else

Day: 75

Flower

From a couple days ago. JH’s leaves have been kinda slouching since then. They’re just now drying out tho. Seems mostly fine, though the same leaf stress is still present a few nodes down.

Day: 73

Flower

RH is high and temps are low… gonna spray Lost Coast at lights out tn, and probably again in the next few days. My bro science approach is that the oil based spray will be more persistent and repel mold while RH is consistently high. Then, as GC is finishing up, I’ll go only Dr. Zymes, I think I trust it more using late in flower even tho Lost Coast claims it can be used day of harvest. Would love any tips on repelling mold while in flower

zer0applied

zer0applied Don’t apply anything. You’re early on flower. Mold shouldn’t be too terribly high on your list. Anything below 65% will be fine right now and I would drop 5% a week. The oil will end up giving you so many headaches and I have read study after study about “great until harvest or so many weeks etc” yeah right…..

Day: 72

Flower

Day after the flood… I’ll need to stay vigilant to make sure mold can’t get established. I gave the top layer a little water to lube up the natural processes, and lower the EC in the case that I’m over feeding. JH has really started flowering the past few days finally. I also started a random seed I found under my bed. It looks good, I never find bag seed and I have every seed I’ve ever purchased accounted for… could be fun

zer0applied

zer0applied Bag seed equals a hermie and I would caution on growing it but…. I ABSOLUTELY WOULD!!!! Love projects! You’re lucky you’re early into flower.

ig:@eaegifts

ig:@eaegifts @Thesocialgrower Be safe out there growmie, even train stations where flooding. Your girls look great! @zer0applied Throughout natural senescence seeds can be made so they’re not considered herms, females will self pollinate to drop seeds for next season so they’re making a S1 of themselves 👍🏾

zer0applied

zer0applied Interesting because I have a few that just dropped from my last ditch effort to save a strain by rooting a flowering cutting from the very bottom of my cut the day after I cut! Anyways, it seeded eventually and I knew it wasn’t a hermie seed due to the biological process but didn’t know there was a specific classification for the seed. Will have to do some reading tonight. However a quick google confirmed that if this was dispensary weed this is like a 99% hermie seed.

Help! Only Jack Herer is showing this stress. It just started really flowering in the past few days. I imagine phos and probably some N are needed. I’ll top dress castings and rainbow mix bloom on both, then barley and crab only for JH. It’s been a little dry too, I was away for a week and I think they started to outpace the watering schedule I gave my roommate. I came back to more necrosis/required defoliation on the bottom leaves than I expected.

TheSocialGrower The leaf tips are a little crispy but I’m not sure if the other symptoms look like overfeeding. I saw multiple ppl on the ILGM forums saying that they can’t stop their JH from getting a little crispy.

TheSocialGrower I could pull the bro science classic and whip out the calmag. It does look like it may be a little mag deficient. I might whip out the dolomite lime in small doses too

TheSocialGrower I also have like… two leafhoppers, but they’ve been around since the start so I doubt they’re a vector for anything

Somebody please tell Jack Herer to start flowering😭😭 no way he needs to be doing all that stretching smh. We’ve been on 12/12 for a few weeks now and STILL nothing smh. GC still going swimmingly tho. Hoping she starts finishing up soon. Gonna have to think about doing less top dress, and just giving JH foliar nutes while GC is finishing. Hoping GC does it’s thing w/o messing w the slower JH and I won’t have to mess w that

LeChron James

LeChron James Check out those sativa fingers

zer0applied

zer0applied Omg yes wow those are some thin little Phil-Angie’s (lol). Gonna stretch like crazy

TheSocialGrower Idk wtf ILGM gave me w these JH genetics, their website says they’re 50/50 hybrid compact plants but all of mine have been MONSTERS that show almost 0 indica (except bud structure was more dense than expected, iirc). None of them have wanted to flower either😭 if nothing else, hopefully they’re actually mold resistant like their website says… Lucky GC is staying pretty compact. I was worried bc it’s a random freebie from N Atlantic Seed Co and I’ve seen a bunch of variance in GC genetics, hoping it’s not a late stretcher.

DJKhaledSufferingFromSuccess.jpg these ladies are getting too big for the little tent. Past few days are the first signs of vigor from JH in a minute, she’s putting on some good height but still slow to flower. GC putting on some serious frosted tips, hoping that means the smoke will take me to flavor town🤔 I gave about 1.5gal of some dilute SST (corn, chickpea, lentil). They’re really starting to suck down water now, giving them at least a gallon (10% volume) minimum every third day. I did turn up the light (from 75%->100%), which JH might be responding positively to; I think I remember it loving intense light in past runs. It won’t be too long before I should be turning down the lights for the GC, but we’ll take it day by day. The XS1500 Pro’s thing is supposed to be PAR spread and canopy penetration, so I’m hoping it does that even better at full power.

Since last update: 3 handfuls BAS castings, 2 handful BAS coots nutes, 1 handful BAS coots minerals, 1 small handful rainbow mix bloom; seaweed & fish sh!t drench w a little NH fish & seaweed and ful power; IPM foliars, once w lost coast, today with Dr. Zymes. I feel like I should top dress more phosphorus, but I’m being cautious since I think I went a little heavy w it in the original mix and already top dressed a good amount when GC kicked into flower, plus JH a is just barely starting flower. The Neptune’s harvest fish & seaweed has a little phos too, but I still usually don’t mix it full strength.

Since last update: kitchen sink root drench [ion-14 silica, recharge, great white, fish shit, NH Fish & Seaweed, ful power], chop & drop, IPM foliar [Dr. Zymes, ful power], top dress [BAS castings, coots nutes & minerals, rainbow mix bloom], IPM spray 2 [lost coast, ful power]. Some lower leaves have been dropping off faster than expected, which I’m taking to mean means they’ve made it through the pre mixed nutes and are ready for more. There is some burn on the tips which is puzzling because I don’t think I’ve done anything in enough quantity to burn. I’m hoping I just sprayed too close to lights on one day and the leaf tips weren’t quite dry. I think pH also may be a factor, as i’m using alkalizing minerals (oyster shell in BAS coots minerals) for peat in my coir mix, but I’m hoping the high velocity of 2 plants in 10 gal will bring pH down a bit. Need to keep watch the GC stem getting buried in the mulch, don’t want any rot issues during flower. Im hoping some day JH may flower, I’ve cut back day length another hour or so, but who knows. Hoping it lines up so that I can chop the GC just as JH is really stretching to give it some space, but we shall see. Really wish this app let you skip lines/indent lmao

Day: 48

Flower

Green crack is off to a vigorous beginning of flower. Trellis net, defol, and top dress today. Soil critters were fed a little chop & drop, a handful of malted barley & oat, and two handfuls of BAS worm castings. I tossed in .4g of BioAg ion-14… I couldn’t find any top dress rates, and conveniently my scale doesn’t read below .4g so it felt right. I maybe should’ve netted them up a little earlier, but the canopy really hadn’t started to get uneven till the last few days🤷‍♂️ I caught 3 leafhoppers, which… it doesn’t look like there are meant more than that based on the damage. I’m gradually shortening the days for the next few nights, then I’m going to give them 24-48hrs darkness if Herer doesn’t look like it’s kicking into flower. I’ve had issues w these genetics not flowering before (see my diary of my 100+ day Herer run that i eventually had to chop; the next run I also had to flip the lights), so I gotta make sure it flowers ASAP so it doesn’t outgrow the tent.

Day: 43

Top dress w 8T malted mix (2 row, 6 row barley, & oats), 5T worm castings (half vermisterra half MI Country Roots), 4T Rainbow bloom mix, 2T neem, 1T BAS charged charcoal. Also inoculated with a few scoops from MIBeneficials fungus gnat eliminator mix. I don’t have any pest problems so I’m hoping the ones that can make themselves at home. I don’t think the mix has anything that’ll harm the plant if not fed properly or something, so hopefully 0 risk. I got the rest for my new grow, but I need to get sand to make at least a bit of a sand filter in my new living soil setup

I put the rest into an old kefir bottle, added about 1/3 volume of sugar (mix of white and light brown unprocessed cane) and a half cup of the 1:1 kefir to water lacto starter that ChatGPT advised me to make🥸🥴 we’ll see how it goes I guess

TheSocialGrower Ohhh that’s a good point. I take the pics before I go to bed to give them time to perk up after their midday lights-out. It’s cheaper electricity and allows me to be available to spray, rather than staying up late/getting up early to do it. Thanks for chiming in!

TheSocialGrower Foliar sprayed Lost Coast & Ful Power; drenched w 3mL fish shit, 7mL neptunes harvest fish & seaweed in half gal water

Day: 37

Despite accidentally beheading it just under 48hrs ago, green crack is still cranking out new growth faster than Jack Herer. The potential clone is still struggling but I’m doing what I can and whatever happens happens🤷‍♂️ it’s fun to mess with for science

Well the remaining GC took the top in stride and shot up regardless… lucky coincidence, or does that SST really work?🤔 the accidental clone is doing as well as can be expected, wilted but looking alive. I misted it with a 2-3-2 fish and seaweed seaweed spray and dumped the rest (~750mL) around all of the root zones. I also covered the moist rag w plastic wrap for moisture, and wrapped the whole fabric pot w it because I take my marching orders from Jeremy Silva. I need to spray bc I see new bite marks like they had during seedling. Also need to figure out when to apply my silica (bioag ion-14) bc I don’t need em to be more prone to snapping🤦‍♂️

Added some corn, chickpea, and chia SST. I’ll order some barley, or some dedicated mix, for it eventually but the CCC SST is what I’ve got on hand. These are both pretty slow autos so I’m not toooo concerned. Might chop the pea soon. I’m paranoid it’s stunting the JH… even tho that was kinda the point, just in case this fresh soil mix was a little hot for autos. Who knows🤷‍♂️

I wanna reuse this soil a number of times, so I decided to throw in some cypress mulch I’ve been testing in my veggie garden. I threw a thin layer (3tbsp, 1/2 strength) of neem meal underneath, ideally to alleviate nitrogen tie-up from the mulch and help repel pests🤷‍♂️ I’ve tried straw before, but it’s a little expensive so I wanna try wood chips. Going to try a cover crop mix for green mulch in the 4x2 bed I’m about to start. It’s a little expensive but I’m intrigued by the build a soil oyster mushroom mulch, might try that depending on how the perpetual cover goes. Green Crack still way outpacing Jack Herer.
