Ps Natalensis LC
Winter 2023
I prepared a bag for the first time using a 2lb bag of rice that I boiled for over an hour, about 12g to a pound of dried coco with a lot left behind. I also used the water used in the rice boil to soak the coco. I let the coco sit as the rice dried on a towel. Filled two bags with about 2lbs 4oz of each material , blending the middle where they meet and leaving a layer of coco at the top. Each bag was about 4 lbs 8oz before and after baking them at 170-250 F for about two hours. Sealed the bag ends immediately and let them sit over night. The agar was also home made, I think about 250ml brown rice to 500ml water, 9g corn syrup, and I think 10g agar? If the mycelium puts on a show itāll change color, didnāt realize I did something cool!

Flowering
Havenāt done an update, but weāre still flushing. The natelensis is very vigorous and wary to work with. I only rehydrated once and I found just misting and completely sealing the bag work just fine. Maybe soaking lets it flush more frequent and faster, but thatās a bigger risk for contamination vs the hydrogen peroxide and water misting and fanning daily. The fruits are small and gnarly but plenty!

Another flush, this one turned black after I had to set them in the fridge for a little, it seems the cold water made the bruising react. These also sporulated a little before I was able to harvest

@eaegifts Very nice, Iāve heard more blue means more potent.
ZaddyXL Do you know if the bruising does anything to degrade the good stuff? Or is it just an cosmetic and everything is fine
@eaegifts From what Iāve seen itās only cosmetic, Iāve been told itās normal and more blue the better.

@eaegifts Nice!! How many flushes you at?
ZaddyXL Just one small one then this one
@eaegifts I see you went low on the substrate so thatās good youāre getting multiple flushes. I see in the pics it looks to be colonizing again so do you think sheās got another one in her?

First flush was a success! Took a spore print and rehydrated for a few hours

First harvest! Put them in the fridge until I can get more to dehydrate. Veil still intact and they were longer than I thought. The ones I left to grow longer bruised very easily just from touching

Finally got around to spawning her in coco! 1:1 or a little more and a casting layer. Misted with hydrogen peroxide water mist and placed in heat mat.

@eaegifts Iād suggest using alcohol growmie, itās good for the misting but wonāt hurt the mycelium.
ZaddyXL I always thought alcohol was too harsh? Iāve seen people combat mold and such with a cap full of peroxide in water for a spray directly to a cake
@eaegifts Iām going off the advice I got in the shrooms or mycology group on Reddit but I forget which. The way it was explained to me and from some reading I did it appears that the alcohol is best because itās also sterilized. Iāve only had success with the bags though so perhaps Iām wrong but definitely worth some reading šš¾

She was performing very well, I decided to give her a shake this morning to speed up colonization.

Day: 1
Vegetating
Starting over with the faithful corn method. Added 2 cc to this and shook it up. I fear it may be on the drier side, but I think the previous one had too much residual sugars and moisture. Turned the heat mat down to 71 and theyāre sitting at about 72.

This strain was so vigorous it started growing out of the cap!

Contaminated. I donāt think rice is the move. The agar is also showing some brown spots.
