Angkor Wat Agar corn spawn

Agar corn spawn

Got a bag of corn, boiled for an hour and change until it was squishable but firm. Jarred and steam sterilized. The Angkor Wat agar used for this was from a spore to agar plate. I picked what I thought looked best and put it into this plate.

Have more coming and pinning slowly from this same corn spawn. The main brick, not so much success

The second container also fruited in just coco and worm castings…. We don’t have anything off of the brick besides some fluffy new growth…

So the grain transfers to coco started fruiting 😃

I think we’ve got some primordial knots! So I thought she was too dry and I had to rehydrate, but instead I tried the bubble wrap tek and when I noticed those new white dots, I removed the bubble wrap and lid, and replaced the lid with clear plastic wrap. I then added two holes to allow air flow while still keeping the moisture for longer. This seems to be working so far. Side note, the grain transfers I used from the spawn jar are pinning in the experiment tub! The growth is also very different than what I saw in this spawn jar.

Had to use bubble wrap tek. Drained the extra water sitting at the bottom of the tub. The top layer looks shiny and dried.

Fruiting conditions initiated two days ago! There was a concerning spot I removed. Smells like mycelium! Spraying with water and hydrogen peroxide

The grain transfers are moving along slowly. I shook them today since some of the moisture was on the glass and some kernels looked off, plus I hope it colonized faster. I’m not I know it’s contaminated and I’ll just toss sooner

First two photos are from yesterday, last there are from today! So much growth and so fast! Even see metabolites. Should switch to fruiting soon.

The experiments using the colonized kernels are moving along. The coco is moving very slow and the jars the same. Can’t wait to shake things up and get it moving. The shoebox is colonizing much faster and still looks healthy

Drizz

Drizz I place my sterile, inoculated substrate back into the pressure cooker, place a heat pad, digital thermo in the middle and set it to 80 fully colonized within 2-3 weeks. I’d shake it

ZaddyXL

ZaddyXL Yep, expect mine was a steam bath. You’d shake now? I already shook on entry though, it just started growing

Drizz

Drizz No I’m ahead of myself, you don’t see a lot of this on here and I enjoy growing mushrooms. 50% colonization has worked well for me with grain.

Day: 18

The kernels I kept to the side I transferred into new jars for a grain to grain tek. Some of the kernels again were starting to go so we’ll see how well this goes… one had 4 very healthy kernels and the other had two sis kernels. Both are on the heat pad and in the dark

Started the bulk mixture someone gifted me. Coco and Poo I believe. I pasteurized an aluminum pan if it at 400 degrees for 20 min, let it cool, then added on top of the popcorn in a 1:1 ratio with an added casing layer. She was fully colonized, I had to really pick it apart. Note: the top had a few kernels that were of a weird color? I didn’t notice till it was in the bin and mixed already but I tried picking a few out. I also took a few kernels to the side to spawn a new jar and added them to some failed experiments to see if it’ll colonize coco coir.

Look at this!!!! I shook it up and almost everything is colonized! It’s a really tight cake of mycelium! Wtf do I do now 😂

lolaperez

lolaperez Buy some premixed substrate & horse poop from Midwest Grow Kits and send that shit

lolaperez

lolaperez Ayooo on second look, that third pic looks a little suspicious- possibly contaminated. How’s it smell?

ZaddyXL

ZaddyXL I don’t think it’s contaminated, third pic top leftish of the bottom of the jar? I think it’s just a shadow but I’ll double check in the morning

Looking good so far! Shaking it up had a positive effect and helped spread the mycelium to various points in the jar. Fuzzy white spots popping up throughout slowly but surely.

I was worried the agar was suffocating against the glass but it’s growing strong still. This was damn near over night. I feel like this spot popped up randomly which is concerning as this was from an agar plate that was suspended to be either turning blue from bruising or molding… however, the agar plate has a matching spot in the same position from what was taken and what’s still in the plate. It was hopefully ash from the tool I was using. Research shows mycelium bruising is a thing and it could be from temp spikes

ig:@eaegifts Love to see this! I grew some in an Exhale co2 bag and a tub this year, I’m tuned in for your corn tech for sure, I’ve tried and failed with this method. Good luck and happy cultivating 👍🏾

GrNadeGrade 💣 What are you attempting to accomplish? if you don’t mind me asking.

Got a bag of corn, boiled for an hour and change until it was squishable but firm. Jarred and steam sterilized. The Angkor Wat agar used for this was from a spore to agar plate. I picked what I thought looked best and put it into this plate. I noticed today the square of original agar started to grow green/blue spots. I took from a different spot, hopefully there was no contamination. The agar stuck to the side after I shook it up. Hiding it in the dark on a regulated heat mat they sit around 75 degrees.
