organic_grower

organic_grower Did you do a bud wash? It would definitely help to remove any bugs stuck on the bud

Jimbo Norman

Jimbo Norman Yes I did bud wash but the bugs are still hanging on. These stalks were submerged for 7 min 🤷‍♂️ can Aphids not drown?

Jimbo Norman

Jimbo Norman I did a 5 gal bucket with 1 cup Hydrogen Peroxide 3%

Patty Black Your plants are getting really tall!

Jimbo Norman

Jimbo Norman Yeah it’s amazing what the sun can do. I’m flowering them indoors so I need to keep them under 5 ft if possible…that’s why I’m bending a few of the taller ones

Patty Black

jamiespotstand

jamiespotstand Do you like these pots over fabric pots??

Jimbo Norman

Jimbo Norman So far so good. No real noticeable differences yet tbh. People swear by these but I chose them because I tend to overwater so these provide more oxygen to the roots and I hate cleaning and/or just throwing away fabric pots…so these seemed like a good solution for both those issues.

Jimbo Norman

Jimbo Norman It’s my first run with them so I can’t say just yet. Ultimately would be cool to run two clones side by side - fabric vs aeropots - and then we could have a definitive answer. Maybe someone’s already done this…?

RoMag

RoMag Jimbo: What’s with the “spiked” containers? To keep the critters out?

Jimbo Norman

Jimbo Norman No these are Aeropots. They actually give fungus gnats more access points to your soil - I witnessed this first hand 👎. Yellow stickies cleared them all up though. Supposedly they deliver more oxygen to the root zone and people swear by them. Probably equal to canvas pots tbh but I’m giving them a shot. Plus I hate washing the canvas pots…

RoMag

RoMag Jimbo: I really dislike fungus gnats. I treat my soil with Systemic Granules Insect Control. I have found after the infected soil I got that just spraying the inside of the grow tent before moving the plants into tent. This helped eliminate red spider mites and thrips that have fallen onto the floor of the grow room. I’m just getting down my own process. The aero pots kind of look like S&M for cannabis.

RoMag When in doubt? Do nothing. Re-evaluate in 12 to 24 hours. Jimbo: I love the yellow flower. Insect prevention or catcher?

Jimbo Norman

Jimbo Norman You know it! The yellow flower is a sticky thing to catch fungus gnats. I got ‘em bad all of a sudden. I’m realizing a major downside to these aeropots is that they provide fungus gnats with a million access points to the dirt below. Fucking stupid in a way. I also got spider mites building webs on the outside bottom area of the pots - I hate those little fucks but they’re not on the plants yet. Will have to nuke them this weekend with Dr Zymes in my Fogger 🔫💪

Buoy413 What kinda pot are you using? And what are the benefits if you don’t mind me asking

Jimbo Norman

Jimbo Norman So these are called Aeropots. I believe there are a number of manufacturers that you can find on Amazon at various price points, so not a patented thing, per se. The benefit is that the roots receive more oxygen and flourish more than in a regular plastic pot. How these compare to fabric pots I don’t know. Maybe they’re the same - I just hate washing fabric pots and I have a bad habit of overwatering so I’m trying these out. People swear by them so we’ll see. This particular plant you’ve commented on is actually still getting a little too much water, so I’m giving her an extra day or two in the watering cycle compared to the rest of the grow. Just one example of these not being fool proof containers, I suppose. I’m also trying ProMix HP for the first time in the hopes that I see a difference in drainage, but I’m still encountering overwatering issues with a few plants. I actually did 50/50 ProMix and Happy Frog since I’m trying to use up what’s left…so I’m going to assume that the Happy Frog is the culprit here. I’ll have to make a pot that’s all ProMix next run to really see if I’m right about that. More of an answer than you asked for. Sorry been talking to plants all day.

Buoy413 Thanks for the info I’m new at this so all the help I can get is greatly appreciated

DublinABDL

DublinABDL I really hope you don’t mind me saying this but you’re watering them wrong - You should be watering the inner “O”, not the outer “O”.

Jimbo Norman

Jimbo Norman So I’ve had issues overwatering plants at this stage in the past and I’ve seen a few other folks on this app watering like this with success. The general philosophy is that by watering around the roots (or wherever you assume the roots are) you’re making the roots chase the water, and by chasing the water they’re growing more vigorously. Conversely, if you only water where the roots are they have less incentive to grow and they can get stunted or drown, which I have done. This outer ring method seems to be working for me (not my first run with this watering method) so that’s why I’m doing it. Obviously your method also works, so I’m not saying this is the way to do it, but it is more of a hit or miss method for me…not sure why. I’m still dialing in my watering routine during the seedling stage and I’m even trying these aero pots to help provide more oxygen to the root zone and avoid overwatering issues.
